Developing a group brand strategy for a unique seaside family business

The brief

Platten’s, an existing client, approached Eat Marketing to help unite the three business entities and build a solid brand that represents their foundation. Platten’s required a website that shares their voice, vision, and mission, as well as the development of an online portal to support their team culture. With a strong family connection to Wells-Next-The-Sea, it was our ambition to bring the three sub-brands of Fish and Chips, Shop With A View, and Apartment Lettings all under the Platten's umbrella brand.

What we did


Our approach:

The popular seaside town of Wells-Next-The-Sea attracts visitors from throughout the North Norfolk area as well as Londoners. To celebrate the location and everything that encapsulates Platten’s, we established a strong brand and website that shares Platten’s voice, vision, and mission. Keeping the location in mind, we chose a brand colour palette that paid homage to the local landscape, including heritage brown, sand, gold, aqua, and lush green. This was then incorporated into a unique illustrative style, which was inspired by the natural beauty of the area.

Following the branding concepts and colour palette, we began work on the logo design for the three sub-brands. It was important to keep the ‘Making Memories’ strapline across all brands so that the values of Platten’s were consistent as well as the family feel and celebration of Wells-Next-To-The-Sea.


A refreshed and beautiful new website clearly defines the three sub-brands and a considered user journey allows visitors to be directed to the business they need in just a few clicks. The Shop with a View has been built as an online store with e-commerce features so shoppers can explore and purchase with ease, and the Fish & Chips element of the business now has an efficient and direct online ordering platform. Finally, the luxury apartment lettings were given the name of Coastal Getaways, signifying the tranquil escape that guests will experience when staying with Platten’s.

Platten’s was also keen to include a Work with Us page, which promotes the company’s values, strong community ties, and passionate ethos, as well as encouraging new faces to join the team and achieve their ambitions. With a straightforward and user-friendly job application form and process, the page is dedicated to recruitment and showcases what Platten’s can offer future employees.


The results:

To tie all aspects of the business together, the new branding can now be applied consistently across all of Platten’s group marketing channels and each sub-brand. The new website successfully communicates Platten’s values, vision, and mission to its consumers, including a variety of features to ensure a seamless user experience.

The local landscape inspired branding helps to retain the celebration of Wells-Next-To-The-Sea throughout, from online fish and chip orders to the ability to buy online and book luxury family getaways.
