Top craft beer brands and microbrewery suppliers

Craft beer production is a lucrative and profitable industry – this year it was reported that the brewery business was worth £1.4 billion in the UK alone. Microbreweries are essential in providing unique tasting specialty beers and over the past few years we’ve seen many of them get creative with their marketing. We’ve picked out our favourite brand campaigns and top 16 microbrewery suppliers across the UK. Take a look at what makes them stand out against the competition.

BrewDog’s “beer for all” campaign

BrewDog, a multinational brewery and pub chain based in Scotland, went all out in their first campaign. The brewery brand wanted to show off their brand personality and what better way to do it than by positioning themselves as a brand for everyone to enjoy.

The lighthearted and comedic campaign stole the show by centering their brand around the idea of inclusivity. From “laughing hipsters”, “vegetarians”, “meat-eaters” to “people who believe in aliens”. BrewDog’s campaign managed to cover every type of person imaginable – emphasising that it really is the craft beer of the people. Within the campaign, the popular brewery brand also introduced their status as the world’s first carbon-negative brewery, thanks to their practice of planting trees. The simple eco-statement read: “making it a better world for everyone who drinks BrewDog; and even those who don’t.”

BrewDogs environmental efforts highlight the idea that they are a brewery brand for the people – anyone on earth can benefit from their product whether they drink it or not. Their campaign was funny, clever and a real hit with those who saw it.

Camden Hells bold branding

The London based brewery brand, Camden Hells, has never been one to hold back on using bright, bold colours to ensure their packaging stands out. Their branded packaging is simple, stripped back and bright – appealing to all genders and people of all (legal) ages.

Their logo is unique and not too busy, ensuring even those who don’t drink their craft beer can still identify who it belongs to. Their logo also lends itself nicely to other branded pieces and merchandise, as seen with their branded summer picnic blanket and tote bag. Camden Hells are a great example of why it pays to invest time and effort into effective branded packaging.

Cloudwater Brew Co. PR events

Cloudwater Brew Co. is an independent micro brewery that gets stuck into local community and PR events. From afterparties, festivals and more they manage to get their brand out there – what sets them apart from the rest is that they offer a range of evolving and one-off seasonal beers, and collaborate with some of the world’s best breweries, producing modern takes on classic styles.

In a competitive industry, Cloudwater is doing something different, working with other brewery brands, sharing their love of different types of craft beer with a wide range of people, as well as listening and taking inspiration from their local community.

Granville Island’s new brand identity

The Canadian microbrewery brand, Granville Island, have overhauled their brand identity to align more with the “do-ers, seekers and adventurers” of British Columbia. They wanted to establish themselves as a brand that openly appreciates their deep rooted origins. From the new diamond shaped scene of Granville Island, where the brand was established through to the block colour and type strategy, their brand has come to life with a modern and fresh new feel to it.

Granville Island’s new brand identity puts them at the forefront of craft beer in Canada. They’ve managed to cut through the noise and stand out within a fiercely competitive market by modernising their brand image to align with the target demographic.
